Any dog, regardless of breed, has the opportunity to earn the Canine Good Citizen certification.  The dog must demonstrate his/her ability to sit politely for petting, allow grooming, accept a friendly stranger, stay calm while walking through a crowd, show good manners with other dogs, not be bothered greatly by distractions, do sits/downs and stay on command, and not fuss while being held on leash by a stranger.

The CGC test is offered to club members once a year, and our obedience classes help handlers and dogs learn and build on the skills required to pass the test.  The next CGC test will be held in May of 2007.

Those who take and pass the test receive a CGC Certificate from the American Kennel Club (AKC).  There is now also a patch and a CGC collar tag available through AKC.  Owners can purchase these separately.
